Empathy System Architecture

Speaker: Andrea Goulet

Empathy, like software, has an underlying system architecture. When we understand the schematic details of empathy, we can operationalize it more effectively and embed compassion into our codebases and communication habits. In this presentation, participants will learn modern models of empathy that often contradict common colloquial expressions.

By exploring the findings of current empathy research, participants will learn specific practices to:

  • Practice practical and specific skills to execute empathy effectively

  • Identify the four foundational functions of empathy from recent neuroscience research

  • Use existing models of system thinking to elevate overall empathy skills

  • Look for leverage points that can be used to achieve more effective empathy outcomes

  • Adapt their internal and external environments to influence positive behavior changes
